BENSALEM, Pa. – Yard Truck Specialists, a distributor of Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractor equipment, announced today that it has opened a new facility next door to its headquarters in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. The location, which adds 21,000 square feet to the company’s service space, will be a focal point for company operations moving forward.

The new location, which was purchased in 2016, has been completely renovated to provide enhanced service and remanufacturing capabilities from a state-of-the-art shop space. Terry Hopkins, general manager for Yard Truck Specialists, noted that the new facility will enable the company to service a higher volume of equipment while maintaining their existing fleet of trucks. The space will also be used to expand the company’s large parts inventory.

“Our new service and remanufacturing center gives us an additional 21,000 square feet of space and houses a five-ton crane,” Hopkins said. “This is a modern and clean service facility that allows us to increase the number of concurrent rebuilds we are undertaking at any one time.”

The purpose of the expansion, Hopkins added, was to improve the level of service the company provides to its customer base. With customers located throughout Pennsylvania, the mid-Atlantic, and down the east coast, the new space was critical to meet changing service demands across a wide range of businesses. The additional inventory space, Hopkins said, will be critical to the company’s plans to launch a parts e-commerce service in 2018.

“It offers us the opportunity to expand our parts facility in our existing building to better service our customers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland,” Hopkins said. “This will help us maintain and solidify our position as the number one Ottawa dealer in both equipment and parts. It also opens up our ability to service and provide parts for competing products like TICO, Capacity, and Autocar.”

Additionally, the new building will contain a large steam bay, capable of being divided into two separate bays to service multiple vehicles at once. Hopkins also noted that Yard Truck Specialists is going to become a state inspection facility for terminal tractors and equipment, something that the company has been seeking to do for a while.
